Tom HarkinTom Harkin blasted President Bush for using a “doomsday scenario” in his decision Wednesday to veto the federal $300 billion Farm Bill.

President Bush’s veto Wednesday of a $300 billion farm bill shows that he’s “aloof and out of touch with the country,” US Senator and former Democratic presidential contender Tom Harkin said.

Harkin told members of the media, including the Courier, that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi planned to call a veto override vote later Wednesday afternoon.

It was the 10th veto of Bush’s presidency, but since the measure passed both houses of Congress with veto-proof majorities, Bush’s veto will likely be overridden.
