Sanjay Jha named Co-CEO of Motorola

Sanjay Jha has been named as Co-CEO of Motorola and CEO of it’s handset division which is expected to be split off as a separate public company in a year.

Greg Brown, who’s been Motorola’s CEO since Ed Zander left last year, is now co-CEO of the company, and will continue to lead Motorola’s infrastructure businesses, which include wireless network gear and cable set-top boxes.

Sanjay Jha, 45, was the chief operating officer of Qualcomm where he managed the Corporate Research and Development and QUALCOMM Flarion Technologies.

Sanjay Jha holds a Ph.D. in electronic and electrical engineering from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland and had received his bachelor of science degree in engineering from the University of Liverpool, England.

Based on Motorola’s decision to go with a tech-heavy candidate, the handset unit looks like it will be concentrating heavily on technology—that is, more advanced features—to compete in the market.

Erin Callan Demoted At Lehman Brothers

Lehman Brothers has fired CFO Erin Callan and COO Joseph Gregory.

Ian Lowitt, chief accounting officer since October 2006, will take over as CFO and Bart McDade will be named president and COO.

Erin Callan will will rejoin the investment banking division in a senior role, the New York-based brokerage firm said.

Jevic Transportation Closes

Jevic Transportation of Delanco, N.J, a closely held U.S. trucking company, is shutting down after 27 years citing high fuel costs, increasing insurance costs, the economic downturn and tightening credit markets as the reasons for its shut down.

“We greatly appreciate the loyalty of our many Jevic customers,” David H. Gorman, Jevic’s president and CEO, said. “It has been our pleasure to provide solutions to your transportation needs over these many years.”

Brian Gladden Named as Dell CFO

Dell, the world’s second biggest maker of personal computers, announced on Monday that Brian Gladden, 43, will take over as chief financial officer, replacing Outgoing Don Carty who previously replaced James Schneider as CFO in December 2006. Don Carty will remain on Dell’s board, on which he has loyally served since 1992.

Brian Gladden is the former chief executive officier of SABIC Innovative Plastics Holding BV, which was formerly GE Plastics. Previously, Gladden worked at General Electric Co. for 20 years.

Brian Gladden will start at Dell on June 13 and report directly to Michael Dell, and will be responsible for all aspects of the company’s finance function, including financial planning and analysis, audit, treasure, accounting, tax and investor relations.

HP and EPS Merger

HP, Hewlett-Packard, said on Monday it is in talks to acquire EDS, Electronic Data Systems, in a deal that some estimate could be worth $13 billion, resulting in shares of EDS going up 28%.

Such a deal could dramatically reshape the high-tech industry once again, pushing HP further in the business of technology services and closer into competition with IBM.

It is going to hurt Dell, HP arch-rival, which has had a close relationship with EDS that has grown from the companies’ Texas roots since at least 2000.

Dell spokesman Jess Blackburn declined to comment on the potential of a HP-EDS deal.
