Sameer Mishra wins Spelling Bee

Samir Mishra of Lafeyette, Indiana wins the Scripps National Spelling Bee 2008 after spelling guerdon. He will receive $35,000 in cash plus more than $5,000 in other prizes.
Samir Mishra, 13, spelled the winning word was Guerdon without much stress.
“I told my mom I was going to do the bee,” Sameer said. “And if I was going to do it, I was going to win it one day. And I guess it happened.”
“I’m not used to people laughing at my jokes - except for my sister,” Sameer said.
“I don’t know about comedy lines, but my parents have been telling me since the beginning that I should always stay calm, cool and collected,” said Sameer
This was Sameer’s fourth year in the competition.
