A F-15D Eagle, a two-seater, crashed on the Nevada Test and Training Range approximately 50 miles east of Goldfield, Nev., at approximately 11:30 a.m. July 30, killing a Nellia Air Force pilot assigned to the 65th Aggressor Squadron.

The other pilot, also assigned to the 65th AS, from the same aircraft was transported to the hospital on base at approximately 1:30 p.m. and is under observation and in stable condition.

The F-15D was participating in a combat training mission as part of Exercise Red Flag 08-03 and both pilots were assigned a mission is to simulate opposing enemy air forces.

The names of the pilots involved are being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

A board of officials is being convened to investigate.

Formula One points leader Ferrari’s Felipe Massa set the pace despite crashing out during the first practice session for Sunday’s British Grand Prix.

Massa, the Brazilian who leads the Formula One standings by two points, climbed out of his car a few minutes after the crash and did not appear to be hurt.

He already had posted the fastest time in the first practice of 1 minute, 19.575 seconds when he spun on some oil at the end of the fastest straight of the Silverstone circuit.

His car spun 180 degrees and went into the safety wall backward, damaging the rear.

McLaren’s Heikki Kovalainen crossing the finish line 0.012 slower. McLaren teammate Lewis Hamilton was third, 0.048 behind.
