Shark attacks in Zihuatanejo, Mexico
Bruce Grimes was attacked by a shark in the sea off Zihuatanejo, Mexico. This is the third shark attacks on surfers in less than 1 month. Two other surfers, one from Mexico and one from the States, were both fatally attacked in the same area earlier this year.
Bruce Grimes, 49, said that he was with a group of surfers when he felt something touch his surf board. He swam 5 strokes and felt the shark bite into his arm. He shouted a warning, pulled his arm away and swam for his life, back to shore. He managed to escape with only five cuts on his right forearm.
“I felt something brush past me three times, scraping my skin like sandpaper. Then I saw a three-meter (10-foot) shark attacking my right arm,” Bruce Grimes, 49, from Florida, told reporters after leaving hospital Saturday.
On Friday, May 23, Mexican Osvaldo Mata, a nearby university student was killed by a shark at Zihuatanejo area, north of Acapulco.
A few weeks ago, another surfer was killed at another neighboring beach.
The shark attacks have affected locals and tourists. People were afraid to get into the water.
