Singapore vs Brazil Olympics Team, National Stadium 29 July 2008.

Brazil Olympics Team Led by AC Milan star Ronaldinho, were off to a smooth start as they defeated a stubborn Singapore Selection side 3-0 in an exhibition match at Singapore National Stadium on 29th July 2008.

Werder Bremen midfielder Diego broke the deadlock in the 20th minute with a goal from just outside the penalty box after receiving a flick from Ronaldinho.

Seven minutes later, Diego’s delicate chip caused confusion in the Singapore area and AC Milan star Ronaldinho made his mark with a close range effort to take his side up 2-0.

Manchester City left-footed Brazilian forward Jo made it 3-0 in the 84th with a header.

Brazil defender Alex Silva was sent off in the closing minutes of the match for stomping on Singapore’s Qiu Li.

Final score: Brazil 3 Singapore 0.

Dave Teo Ming, Singapore full time national serviceman, was sentenced to a total of nine years and two months jail, and 18 strokes of the cane on three charges of being in possession of a rifle, live bullets and knife.

On 2nd Sep 2007, Dave Teo Ming disappeared with a SAR-21 rifle and eight rounds of ammunition from Mandai Hill Camp while on guard duty, and he was going to use the rifle to shoot his girlfriend Crystal Liew who had broken off with him, according to the prosecution. He was arrested in a public toilet of the Orchard Cineleisure shopping mall the following day, 20 hours later after he disappeared.

Dave Teo MingOn 7th Jul 2008, Dave Teo Ming admitted in court to two offences under The Armed Offences Act and one under the Corrosives, Explosives and Offensive Weapons Act, for which he got nine years jail and six strokes, and five years and six strokes respectively.

He was also jailed for two months and ordered to be given six strokes on a third charge of having a 40cm knife at a staircase in Block 22, Simei Street 1, in Melville Park on 14th Apr 2007.

Teo’s friend, Ong Boon Jun, who did not report Teo for possessing the rifle and bullets, had earlier been sentenced to six-and-a-half years in jail and six strokes of the cane.

Gregory Yong, Singapore Ex-Archbishop, died of heart failure on 28th Jun 2008, at approximately 2.40pm. He was 83.

His successor, Archbishop Nicholas Chia said “he was saddened by the news but added that he had lived a good life.”

Gregory Yong’s body, which is lying at St. Joseph’s Home, will be transferred to the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd on Monday, 30th Jun 2008.

Gregory Yong Sooi Ngean (Chinese: ???) D.D. D.C.L was the Roman Catholic Archbishop Emeritus of Singapore.

Born in Taiping, Malaya on May 20, 1925, he was educated at St. George’s Institution and St. Michael’s Institution in Ipoh, Malaya. In January 1941, he entered the Minor Seminary and in 1944 graduated to the Major Seminary. He was ordained in 1951 and posted to the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Singapore. In 1953, he left for studies in Rome where he was conferred a Doctorate in Canon Law, the very first local priest to achieve the distinction. Back in Singapore in 1956, he was sent as assistant Parish Priest to the Church of the Sacred Heart. In the following year, he joined the teaching stuff of the Minor Seminary. After a short stint as assistant Parish Priest at the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, he was appointed to a teaching position in the Major Seminary, again, the very first local priest to be thus honoured. On July 1, 1968, he was consecrated Bishop, and took over the Diocese Of Penang from Bishop Francis Chan who had died on October 27, 1967.

On February 3, 1977, he was appointed to succeed Archbishop Michel Olçomendy as the first of the local clergy to lead the Church in Singapore. On April 2, 1977, he was officially installed as the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Singapore. He was the second Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Singapore, which was formed in 1972 when the Archdiocese of Malacca-Singapore split and held the office until retiring on October 14, 2000.

He died on June 28, 2008 at St Joseph’s Home, Singapore.

PC Show 2008PC Show 2008 is really crowded even on the first day, 12th June 2008. Expect it to be even more pack on the last day, 15th Jun 2008.

My family of four, (wife, son, daughter and I), went to the Level 4 of the PC Show 2008 at Suntec Singapore.

After going around checking out almost every brand, my wife decided to buy the Fujitsu White LifeBook A6120WVP, which cost SGD$1,988.00 to replace Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop that went haywire with the keyboard not responding.

While walking around, saw Kanny Theng and another PC Show girl passed by.

I bought a Logitech Ultra Flat USB Keyboard, which cost SGD $27.00, so I can used the Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop as spare.

We went to the Singapore Flyer after the PC Show 2008.

Sexy Fragrance Prince, 24 years old man, has been arrested for posting racially-offensive content on his blog.

The man was nabbed at his home in Paya Lebar Way and a computer, believed to be used to post the blog, has been seized on Tuesday.

The arrest follows two complaints, which the police received on May 19, concerning the alleged post on his blog.

Under Section 298 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, those who have ‘deliberate intention of wounding the religious or racial feelings of any person, cause any matter however represented to be seen or heard by that person’, can be jailed for up to three years or fined, or both.

Singapore refers to it as Pedra Branca (”white rock” in Portuguese), and Malaysia as Pulau Batu Puteh (”island of the white rock” in Malay)

Pedra Branca is currently the subject of a territorial dispute between Singapore and Malaysia that is being determined by the International Court of Justice.
